Briana Al-Masri has been accepted for the 2008 Governor's Honors Program. It is a six-week summer instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Briana is a junior at Brunswick High School. Nicole Summerlin, a senior at Glynn Academy, has been chosen to attend the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts Summer Intensive Program and two-year program. The school auditions more than 4,000 students from around the world before accepting the 180 young people who are ultimately invited to attend. |

Brunswick Telcome Pioneer President recently presented a check to Amity House Director Mary Hogan, in keeping with the organization's practice of giving back to the community. The Pioneers are also responsible for the diplay of American flags on various national holidays and the display of U.S. state flags on the Sept. 11 anniversary each year. | The board of directors of the Friends of Historic Jekyll Island recently announced that Kaitlin Kent, Ann Harrell and Scott Jones are the winners of the Marshes of Glynn History Prize Essay Contest for 2008. All three winners are ninth-grade students at Glynn Academy and are taught by Laurie Etheridge. |

| Needwood Middle School students Alexandria Madala, from left, in front, Kaitlyn Mannis, Mallory Graham, Laura Lee and in back, from left, Casey Drum, Taylor Chasteen and Kathryn Stoklosa recently attended the "Introduce a Girl to Engineering" event at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The event was the kickoff for Georgia Engineers Week Celebration 2008. Students who attended were nominated being in the 10 female mathematics or science students at their school. |
